Hi, I’m Didi Ananda Muktivrata and I think a spiritual person can also walk in the real world.

I have been practicing yoga and meditation for the last 45 years and have been a yogic nun for the last 35 years. I am originally from the United States, but I have been teaching yoga and meditation and working in social projects in South America for the last 22 years. The last 21 years have been in Peru and I spent one year in Brazil when I initially came to South America.

In my years as a yogic nun, I’ve had the truly amazing opportunity to learn about many different cultures and ways of thinking.

Before coming to work in Brazil and Peru, I spent 15 years in Asia, also teaching yoga, meditation, and working in education projects. I was in Japan for 13 years, Taiwan 2 years, but I also visited South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and the part of Russia which is in Asia. In fact, I spent those 15 years entirely in Asia without stepping foot outside one time.

Guess what? I’ve found out that you don’t have to be perfect to be spiritual or have a spiritual outlook on life, and you can even have fun doing it!

Watch more about me in this video!

For example, I’ve learned enough Japanese to get by, enough Mandarin to answer the phone and buy my own train tickets, enough Portuguese to do almost nothing, and enough Peruvian sign language to truly appreciate the trials and skills of deaf people in Peru. I have forgotten most of these hard-won language contests as I still struggle to improve my Spanish.

I’d like to take this opportunity of write on Medium to share and let you know what it is like to live a spiritual life which is combined with reality. I’m actually a real person who still has many imperfections.

Guess what? I’ve found out that you don’t have to be perfect to be spiritual or have a spiritual outlook on life, and you can even have fun doing it! I’ve also found that thinking and rationality improve one’s life greatly. So, let’s take this opportunity that Medium is giving us to explore together!

I’m also a writer on the publication Thoughts That Byte.
